Looking for the best hotels in Honolulu? Boasting 4 stars across Yelp, Booking.com, Travel Advisor and more, the Outrigger Waikiki Beachcomber Hotel lives up to the great reviews. It’s worth the booking the next time you’re traveling to Oahu and this is why it’s our feature hotel of the month.

We recently did a fun and relaxing staycation at this local Hawaiian hotel. In this post, we are giving you 5 reasons why you should stay at the Waikiki Beachcomber next time you’re on island.

1. Location is Key

Location matters when looking at hotels in Honolulu.

The first thing we personally look at when exploring hotels for our travels are the reviews. After that, we look at location. Let’s face it, location is not only important in your personal real estate needs, but in your travel ones too. Who wants to stay at a hotel miles away from the rest of the local amenities they want to enjoy?

Don’t get us wrong. There are nice hotels at both ends of Kalakaua Ave (the main street in Waikiki). The distance of some though is nearly one whole mile from some of the most popular restaurants, shopping and activities.

With this in mind, the benefit of staying at the Waikiki Beachcomber due to its location is huge. Seeing that it sits at the end of the International Market Place and across the street from the Royal Hawaiian Center, the range of activities and restaurants at your fingertips is too much for you to take advantage of in one trip. Of course, it’s also only one street over from the famous Waikiki beach and two blocks from the Ala Wai River.

Plus, you’ll have quick access to Duke’s Marketplace, ABC stores and other shopping for any last minute or urgent needs such as medication or cosmetic needs. All these shopping options are within a 3 minute walk from the hotel.

2. Family Friendly Hotel

Not all hotels in Honolulu are family friendly.

Next on our research list when it comes to hotel bookings is family friendly ratability. As much as we as adults would love to stay in a luxurious hotel without a kid in sight, we do have kids of our own that join us on trips. Due to this, we have to find hotels that are a fit for all four of us!

We’ve seen an array of guests at the Beachcomber. From empty-nesters enjoying vacations with their friends, balanced against new parents pushing strollers through the lobby, this hotel can accommodate anyone.

Leo and Gabe love staying at the Beachcomber. They continually tell us it’s the best hotel on the island and feel very welcomed here. They love the pool, hot tub, tv and the cuisine options within walking distance. As has been noted, we enjoy the Beachcomber for all these reasons too.

The boys also love sitting on the balcony and taking in the views and sounds of the city. One of Leo’s favorite things to do is to listen to the bands playing at surrounding areas while sitting outside. This brings a lot of culture and entertainment to our family at no extra cost.

3. On-Site Amenities

Always look for hotels in Honolulu with great on-site amenities.

Another key point to the pool and hot tub amenities is the location – rooftop, baby! It doesn’t get much more relaxing than sitting in a hot tub, looking out at the beautiful Hawaiian sky. Not to mention, you get an entire view of Kalakaua Ave, the Royal Hawaiian Center and Diamond Head from the hot tub as well.

Not only is the pool area on the rooftop, but also are their two main restaurants. The Hawaiian Aroma Cafe and the Maui Brewing Company both offer delicious food and drinks within steps of the pool. In fact, we love to frequent the Hawaiian Aroma Cafe for any meal of the day – breakfast, lunch and dinner. Additionally, they have a great happy hour that includes both drinks and food. You can even collect points to earn money off of future orders.

Pro tip: try their Berrylicious Acai Bowl, paired with an iced latte with oat milk and you won’t be disappointed (or hungry afterwards)!

Lastly, this hotel in Waikiki hosts a lot of activities and events from sunrise yoga at the pool, to evening pool deck movies, and even local concerts. Check online or with their front desk to see what will be happening during your stay.

4. Cleanliness

Look no further for clean hotels in Honolulu than here.

With the recent bed-bug epidemic in Paris making the news, we think it’s safe to say that cleanliness is an important factor in reviewing hotels. While it’s understandable things happen outside of hospitality’s control, it’s also reassuring to know when a location is clean.

We are a picky, critical and otherwise not easy to please family when it comes to accommodations. We have rather high expectations when it comes to hotels based on location and cost. Without a doubt, we have never had a complaint or issue when it has come to the cleanliness of the rooms, lobby, restaurants, pool, etc. at the Outrigger Beachcomber. In fact, we are always impressed by the high level of cleanliness this hotel has to offer.

The sheets always look white and fresh. The bathrooms are spotless and the pool deck never has any trash or ick lying around. Additionally, the lobby is fun, festive and orderly. With attention to detail, this Hawaiian lodging knocks it out of the park.

5. Staff & Cost

Most hotels in Honolulu have great staff, but not all are affordable.

Being in the middle of luxury row Waikiki, you would assume that this hotel cost would be at the higher end. However, its nightly rate is actually very affordable. This is huge when traveling to Hawaii, where cost savings are challenging.

In addition to cost being a bearer of good news, the staff is also unquestionably friendly and professional. We’ve never come across anyone with an attitude or anyone unable to help us. Everyone has always gone above and beyond to be incredible hosts, as well as treating our kids with loving kindness.

In conclusion, we highly recommend staying at the Waikiki Beachcomber by Outrigger if you’re looking for accommodations in Honolulu. As always, this is where He leads us.
